- Transforming Classrooms: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Education | Pan Atlantic Times
< Back Transforming Classrooms: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Education Edidiong Antigha 26 Jan 2024 In this digital age, Artificial Intelligence has grown from a simple science fiction fantasy to a possible reality that is revolutionizing various aspects of our lives. It plays a fundamental role, in the field of education, by transforming the way students learn and prepare for the future ahead of them. But how is AI affecting the world of education and what benefits does it offer students? Artificial Intelligence is a term used to refer to machines and computers that possess the capability to perform tasks and activities that would normally require the intelligence of a human being. These tasks include voice recognition, complex decision making and natural language processing. Many people may fear that the rise of AI in the educational sector would lead to it replacing the traditional methods of teaching, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s important to remember that main goal of AI is not to replace but instead improve our lives and make it easier. This same goal can be applied to AI’s effect on education, it is not meant to replace the job of educators but instead assist and improve their abilities. AI improves the educational sector in a variety of ways such as simplifying administrative tasks for lectures by automatically grading the tests of students, allowing lecturers to spend more time with their students and figure out the best teaching method for them. AI can also play a part in helping teachers set up personalized learning for each student. AI can do this by customizing in-class assignments and exams for students, to ensure that they all get the best learning assistance possible. AI can also create a richer learning experience by generating audio descriptions and summaries for students to gain a deeper understanding of what they are studying. However, despite the number of benefits that stem from the implementation of AI in the classrooms, there are also disadvantages as well. For example, the use of AI in the educational sector could bring about a loss of human connection. This is because AI driven classrooms may lack the empathetic and compassionate touch that human teachers offer, and this could potentially stunt and affect the emotional wellbeing and growth of a student. Over dependence on AI in the classroom could also affect a students’ critical thinking skills and creative skills as well. Artificial Intelligence has brought a lot of benefits to the educational sector, but it has brought about a lot of concerns as well and as it continues to evolve, it will play an increasingly important role in how the students of tomorrow learn. - Educational Growth in the Pan-Atlantic University | Pan Atlantic Times
< Back Educational Growth in the Pan-Atlantic University The Editorial Board 28 Jan 2024 On the 16th of November,2023 the School of Media and Communication announced that the NUC had official approved courses including BSc Film and Multimedia Studies .in the university’s curriculum. As an ever-evolving institution, the Pan-Atlantic University remains a game changer as they include some of the new departments to their curriculum proposed by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The University has set itself apart as a leading institution revolutionizing the undergraduate scene in Nigeria by putting systems in place that can accommodate the introduction of these unique courses. In the 2023/2024 academic calendar, the university included three new departments to their list of faculties increasing the variety of fields for new applicants to pick from. Before this moment the university had included the Department of Finance to the School of Management and Social Sciences making it four in total to the existing Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics departments. In the School of Media and Communication (SMC), the school included Film and Media Studies to the two thriving departments Mass Communication and Information Science and Media Studies (ISMS) making it three. Also, in the School of Science and Technology (SST), two new department were included Software Engineering and Mechatronics to the already existing Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering making it five. Conversation with some current students revealed their desire for the new departments to already be in existence before they joined the school but as amazing as the new changes where, no preparation was made for new students’ intake into those departments. Most new students found out upon entry into other departments about the new department and switched over to them. Going through the school’s website those courses are still not added to the list for the future applicant to be aware of the available options. It seemed like a rushed decision by the University though its good, but it needed better planning and execution including updating to be better accepted and perceived by the current students, new intakes and possibly the staff. Regardless of this minor factor, it is a positive feat for the school as no other university in the country has included these departments into their calendar according to my last updated search. However, recently PAU celebrated its 10th Matriculation of over 500 students and looking over at its first matriculation having close to 70 students and just three departments. The growth and development of the school is immensely improved and PAU is still ensuring quality and industry standard education as they take on more students and courses. Previous Next

- Green Eagles at a Century: Nigeria 100 AFCON Flight | Pan Atlantic Times
< Back Green Eagles at a Century: Nigeria 100 AFCON Flight Cynthia Tigiri 24 Jan 2024 History was made on Monday as Nigeria’s Super Eagles took the pitch against Guinea-Bissau for their 100th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match. Though the pressure was high, the Eagles surely rose to the occasion securing a 1-0 narrow pass victory into the round of 16. Nigeria's 100th AFCON appearance wasn't just about the team on the pitch. It was a celebration of the millions of Nigerians who have cheered them on over the years. From the days of Kanu Nwankwo and Jay-Jay Okocha to the current generation of stars, the AFCON has been a stage where Nigerian hopes and dreams take flight. The journey of the Super Eagles that led to the glorious milestone of the team we see today started with a lot of turbulence and celebrations as the seed sown in 1963 by the team ignited the start of an incredible road of experiences. Recall that in 1980, the Eagles lifted their first AFCON trophy on home soil with a mixture of emotions, a golden moment that is engraved in national memory. They won in 1994 where Jay-Jay artistry painted the continent in green and white in Tunisia. Not all sunshine and rainbow from 2004 to 2010 where there were defeats, missed opportunities, moments of desperation, heartbreaks, and near-misses that left fans hoping for a breakthrough. Their prayers were answered in 2013 where the phoenix Eagles gave an indomitable spirit that sealed another triumph proving that the team still has what it takes to win an AFCON cup in South Africa. And in Monday’s game, those dreams soared a little higher where every move, tackle and goal paved an historic moment in the minds of everyone watching Live and in the stadium. The Super Eagles have booked their place in the knockout stages, but more importantly, they have earned their names in the annals of AFCON history. And as the celebrations subside, one thing is clear: Nigeria's journey in the tournament is far from over. Previous Next
- Pan-Atlantic University students elect New Course Representative | Pan Atlantic Times
< Back Pan-Atlantic University students elect New Course Representative Mariam Oyedele 28 Jan 2024 On Monday, the students of the Pan-Atlantic University began the week-long process of electing new course representatives in their different classes. The course representative serves as a first point of contact for students, as they take their views to the attention of the staff on the course or program. This makes it a very important role to the students of PAU and their needs concerning their courses. The PAU students in each class nominate candidates for both the positions of course representative and assistant course representative; they then vote using ballot papers. This election is conducted in classrooms and supervised by a student affairs representative. The most recent election took place on Wednesday in the Zaria classroom for the mass communication 300-level students. The election was carried out seamlessly, with Nkeiruka Ezekwere as the new course representative and Doyinsola Oyedele as the new assistant course representative. “I will do my best to be a responsible course representative,” said Ezekwere after winning the elections. "I will assist you as much as you need me,” said Oyedele in response to the Ezekwere declaration. At the university, a new course representative and assistant are elected every academic session.
